Selena
She was an artist, creator, performer and also set new boundaries in the music world. She was Mexican-American, but still traditional. She introduced Tejano to mainstream culture. In the same way that most people grieve a celebrity who died too early, her passing was untimely and shattered the progress of her career. In order to prevent her accomplishments from being forgotten, many fans over these past few years have been motivated to go further. Her death in a shooting triggered emotions in the Latino community that is similar in a way to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely popular Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and inspired both young people and older adults. Selena has been called by some as the Latina Madonna, however she's still an excellent character model. Selena's off-stage family values and involvement with AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
